Social Media Policy

The purpose of the California State Auditor's office is to improve California government by assuring the performance, accountability, and transparency that its citizens deserve. Our social media pages are used as a platform to reach as many Californians as possible to share our audit and investigative report findings and provide information about our selection of redistricting commissioners and other programs for which we have responsibility.

We welcome comments and discussions on our pages related to our work and hope that your posted comments will be courteous. You are fully responsible for the content of your comments; however, we monitor social media content to ensure that it contains correct and appropriate information for a wide-range of users.

We do not discriminate against any views, but we reserve the right to remove any of the following:

  • Violent, threatening, vulgar, obscene, profane, malicious, hateful, racist, or sexist comments.
  • Off topic comments.
  • Repetitive posts copied and pasted by multiple users.
  • Harassment based on gender, sexual preference or other protected characteristics.
  • Links to any website.
  • Solicitations, advertisements, or endorsements of any financial, commercial, or non- governmental agency.
  • Promotion or endorsement of political issues, ballot measures, groups, candidates, or individuals.
  • Comments that suggest or encourage illegal activity.
  • Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public.
  • Comments that appear to us as intended to defame any person, group, or organization.
  • Comments that violate a legal ownership interest of any other party (such as trademark or copyright infringement) or disclose proprietary information.
  • Comments that threaten or compromise the security of government information technology, including records.
  • Confidential or sensitive information.
  • Personally identifiable information of another person.

This site is not monitored for media inquiries. Reporters or other media representatives are asked to call 916.445.0255 and to refrain from submitting questions on the California State Auditor’s social media pages. Reporter questions may be removed.
