
How to File a Complaint

We do not accept complaints via e-mail. However, an electronic version of our complaint form is available and may be returned by mail, or you can file a complaint online.
How does the law protect reporting individuals?
- Requires the State Auditor to protect the identity of reporting individuals.
- Protects reporting individuals from intimidation, threats, or coercion by state employees for the purpose of interfering with the individuals' rights to disclose improper governmental activities to the State Auditor.
- Protects state employees from reprisal, retaliation, threats, coercion, or similar acts for having disclosed improper governmental activities.
What do I do if I am retaliated against?
- If you are a state employee, you must seek retaliation redress in writing through the State Personnel Board at 801 Capitol Mall, MS53, Sacramento, CA 95814. For additional information, call (916) 653-1403.
- If you are an employee of the University of California (UC), you must seek redress within the UC.
- If you are an employee of the California State University (CSU), you must seek redress within the CSU. For additional information, call Maria Santos or Bill Candella at (562) 951-4425.
